It is a relatively short amount of time. Even if we grow accustomed to it quickly, that still doesn't leave us with much time to make use of what we've learned.

That is true. If being brought here has done anything good, it is open our eyes to just how large everything is. Life is wonderful with how many surprises it can throw at you.
